  Lovely Martha

Cold hands, frozen bait, up before the sun
Anchovie on a hook, in the icy dawn
We look for the seabirds to show us where the fish run
Shiney silver salmon sparkling in the sun
The waves wash green over the deck of the boat riding low
We pull in our lines, take our catch and go home

Rocking in the hold, at the end of day
In the dark and cold, I listen to the sway
Fishing boats all tied, how they weep and moan
Tugging at their moorings, they beat the docks and groan
The sound echos a lonely yearning chord
Reaching for a distant shore, something pulling me so strong

Lovely Martha lives on the waterfront
See her dancing in the waves outside the Golden Gate
Lovely Martha do you remember me
I am the gypsy troubador you carried off to sea

Stranded on the shore I'm hanging around this wharf
I watch the boats go out, out to sea once more
Lovely Martha is there, weathered as I am grey
Timeless in her beauty, still afloat in her old age
I see her dancing out over the restless waves
How it makes me ache to see her now this way

Lovely Martha lives on the waterfront
See her dancing in the waves outside the Golden Gate
Lovely Martha do you remember me
I am the gypsy troubador you carried off to sea
